Kim Atherton
| BSc (Hons), MNIMH, BA (Hons), PgDip
I have been a fully qualified and practising medical herbalist since 2004. Since that date I have run a successful practice under the name Rosemary & Thyme alongside Jean Dow. I currently run various clinics throughout Edinburgh & West Lothian.
My BSc in Herbal Medicine was undertaken at The Scottish School of Herbal Medicine in Glasgow, where all students were lucky to benefit from the expertise of some of the leading herbalists in the UK and abroad. The training demands all the requisite skills of the orthodox medical practitioner but combined with energetic and pharmaceutical plant study and nutrition.
My practice is therefore focussed on how the herbs can benefit you not only pharmacologically but energetically and spiritually too. I believe the body has a wonderful capacity for self-healing and can be helped towards this by the use of our native herbal plants. Herbalism uses medicine based on the whole plant, and 90% of our medicines are organic and biodynamically grown. The herbs are suited to all ages of patient and a very wide range of conditions.
I am also an ITEC qualified masseur and reflexologist , so please contact me for details if you are interested in these therapies. It is often helpful to use one or other of these therapies in conjunction with herbal medicine to achieve even greater results.
Jean Dow
| BSc (Hons), MNIMH, BA (Hons), MSc
I graduated from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine in 2004 and have been practicing in Edinburgh, West Lothian and Glasgow since that time with my partner Kim, in Rosemary & Thyme.
I see a very wide variety of patients ranging from new born babies to people in their 80's and its wonderful to be able to show that herbal medicine is suitable for all. Herbs also sustain your wellness; in other words they act preventatively to maintain health, and many patients I see use herbal medicine in this way; to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
I work from a vitalistic philosophy in that I use herbal medicine in a manner that supports the person's own innate self healing, self regulating ability. I also work closely with people living with cancer, supporting with herbs and nutrition both during mainstream medical care (chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy) and/or after this has finished: I am incredibly passionate about herbal medicine's supportive and important role in cancer care and now have several years experience in this very particular field.
I also run nutritional workshops teaching about the positive role of food for both the body and the mind with a particular focus on people living with cancer or chronic degenerative disease.

Rosemary and Thyme Herbals is a traditional western herbal
clinic, run by Jean Dow and Kim Atherton.
The clinic offers herbal treatment for a wide range of ailments using organic, whole plant medicines.
Herbs encourage the body's own natural healing processes so that health can be regained without the use of chemically produced drugs. Herbs are gentle on the body and the mind and can be used to treat short or long term health problems, babies to adults.
Initial appointments last approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and follow-up visits forty minutes in our relaxed, warm and welcoming clinic. The herbal combinations we use are put together at the clinic specifically for you. Your treatment and medicines will be reviewed at each visit, so that these adapt as your health improves. This ensures that you are taking an herbal prescription which treats your specific situation at each stage of your return to health. The number and frequency of visits you make to the clinic is dependent on your individual needs.
We are both members of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists. Our education has included anatomy, physiology, pathology, differential diagnosis, botany, pharmacology and nutrition, as well as in-depth study and experience of each of the herbs we use. We enjoy the right of primary diagnosis along with Medical Doctors and Chiropractors.
